Many companies advertise their products as optimal in the fight against mold, fungi. Certainly, many of them are effective and help make the problems disappear for a while. However, if the immediate cause isn’t diagnosed and properly fixed, these problems will keep coming back.
There are different reasons for biological deterioration and it’s a complex issue. This is why a holistic approach to the building’s condition is needed. As a building diagnostician, I analyze all the aspects that may contribute to the problem: I take a look at building partitions and analyze them in terms of their thermal and humidity properties; I determine the occurrence of thermal bridges; I look at ventilation method and its quality; I check the way the building is used; I examine for the occurrence of leaks or cracks; I look at the technical condition of the building as well as its surroundings, etc. Only this way it is possible to diagnose building sickness and propose a proper “treatment”.
Mycology problems in construction are connected to such issues as insulation, ventilation, thermal and humidity aspects, and material properties. Their mutual unfavorable correlation leads to the formation of biological corrosion centers.
Mold, fungi, problems with humidity, ventilation or poor technical condition of the building are not only a matter of unsightly appearance. In effect, these factors cause health problems for the building users: allergies, asthma, general feeling of being unwell, headaches, body weakness, recurring respiratory diseases. They also cause an increase in the operating costs of the facility and degraded quality of life. This is why a properly made diagnosis allows for an efficient fight against the problem, resulting in better safety, improved life quality, and, in the long run, financial improvement.
As an architect, building mycologist, Certified Passive House Tradesperson, I have interdisciplinary knowledge that is useful in indicating specific design and implementation solutions aimed at:

_ consultancy on the implementation of proper thermal insulation of the building using appropriate materials and methods, so as to achieve real savings in the use of the building,

Performing diagnostic tests (moisture measurements of materials, thermal imaging, general technical condition of the building) and conducting analyses of building partitions (walls, roof, ceiling) is significant for the preparation of repair solutions. An analysis of building partitions allows for offering effective design and material solutions to increase the energy efficiency of the building, which in turn will eliminate moisture and mould, increase savings and improve the climate inside the building.
